over coffee

If I were having coffee with you today, I would order a pumpkin seasonal drink. I’d tell you how I don’t often buy coffee anymore because since I got my Nespresso machine, I’ve had so much fun making my own coffees at home.

I’d ask you how your week is going? If you were excited about fall or are you holding on to the last days of summer as long as you can? I’d ask how your heart was doing and how I could pray for you?

I’d tell you how I’ve been craving that slow paced life. After so many years of survival and flight mode. It’s hard for me not to numb my days with distractions. It’s been so long since I’ve sat and had coffee with a friend and actually lived life. Though I’ve made some choices that still to this day that feels so unnatural like giving up social media for the most part I’m finding that because I’m saying no to these things I am able to say yes to things that matter. Like the amount of time, I was on my phone significantly less this month reminded me that saying no to scrolling is giving my days more time to fill it with purpose. I would tell you that though I’ve gotten backlash on quitting social media for the most part and choosing to share my story through blogging mainly because it takes the convenience away. I’m not longer a scroll away nor are my posts short enough to keep the attention span that our brains are trained to now I’m so glad I did. There’s so much peace that comes with laying my children down at night, making coffee, lighting a candle and just write.

I’d tell you how I started my homeschool journey again, a journey I never thought I’d have the honor to start again. My two oldest daughters wanted to remain in public school however my third oldest didn’t fancy public school at all and it was a daily struggle so we decided to stop fighting it and bring back homeschooling, with her i decided to homeschool my two littles as well. We’re going into week three homeschooling and though it is challenging homeschooling in the midst of moving and getting married I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’d tell you how crazy my life has changed, drastically since June. If you would have told that single mama who at the time planned on being single for the rest of her days would be engaged that August with the man God had given her she probably wouldn’t believe you.

And yet here I am, engaged to the most incredible man, preparing for the move into our new home and starting a life as a family of nine. Pinch me, I feel like I’m dreaming. I feel like The Lord has suddenly blessed me with all the things I’ve prayed for.

If I was having coffee with you today, I’d tell you how we’ve been faithfully attending Mass for over two months now and how much I love the experience and just a dedicated love the church has for Jesus is absolutely captivating. Going from a Nondenominal church to a Catholic church is very different, but a good different. The hardest part would definitely be no coffee before Mass haha! and that they don’t have daycare for the little ones, however I love the idea of everyone coming together and receiving the word as a family.

If I was having coffee with you, I’d remind you that you don’t have to make your life look impressive for it to me meaningful and with that I’d tell you that your story doesn’t have to be seen by everyone to matter. That this week I’d encourage you to make your coffee for your eyes only, to spend time with Jesus without feeling the need to share it, to take your kids on a fall adventure and be fully present instead of focusing on content. I’ll be reminding myself to do the same.

If I was having coffee with you on this Monday morning, I’d probably take another sip, look at you across the table , and say:

Keep going mama.

Your story, your legacy matters for eternity.

Whether it be lived out loud or quietly, it matters.

One day at a time, mama.
