Purple Roses.

Saturday morning June 13th. I wasn’t sure what was going to take place that day. If I should be excited, hopeful or downright terrified.

It was crazy to me that just days before I erased every single dating profile I had because I had asked God to keep me hidden until I was ready to love and to be loved well and hide me for the man who would do the same.

and now today (June 6th) I’m getting ready for my first date, trying to downplay it but according to my thirteen year old “I never look this good for work” what’s that supposed to mean? I asked with a chuckle. She said

“your going on a date, aren’t you?”

“Well wouldn’t you like to know”

“when am I going to meet this guy?”

“I can’t get nothing past you, can I? And the next man I meet will be the man I marry, so in due time, love”

I guess you can say my oldest daughter has what you would call “oldest daughter to a single mom syndrome.” I hate that for her. She feels so protective over her mama when all I want her to be is a child.

10:30 rolls around and I’m off to a first date, I get in the car, trying to not let nerves get the best of me. Am I making a mistake? Lord please don’t let me do that. Deep Breaths. The peace I feel right now is unmatched *continues driving.

I get there, he’s on the bench, walks up to me and gives me the sweetest hug and hands me the most beautiful flowers.

He then said “You seem like the kind of girl who would know the meaning of flowers or would look them up, so I made sure to buy you the flowers that matched my intentions.” CAN YOU EVENNNN

Purple roses - LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.

It didn’t take me a second date, no not even a second moment with him to know that He was the one. I was talking to my husband. We had our first date at “Rise up coffee” I got a iced Mocha, he tried the iced vanilla latte (and hated it) I had mocha sauce on my lip and he didn’t let me know until our date was nearly ending because he thought it was the cutest thing. I told him to “get used to that if he wanted a second date because I tend to wear my food haha!) We talked about Jesus, legacy, purpose and what we’re looking for in a partner.

Quicker than we wanted our date came to a end at 2:00pm, he walked me to my van and said “I’d like to kiss you if that’s okay?”

We had our first of many sweet kisses that day, on June 13th.

THE GIRLFRIEND.

It didn’t take long for him to ask me out for our second date. That Tuesday actually. June 16th! We decided to take a stroll through Downtown which quickly became a shared love. When I got into the car he looked at me straight in the eyes and said “Heather, absolutely no pressure if this is too fast for you, I’ll wait. But I know for a fact that I have found the woman I want to love and I don’t want to date anyone else. Will you be my girlfriend?”

Again, the easiest yes! He then gave me the sweetest kiss, and handed me a Bible wrapped in white paper wrap with pink bows on it. We walked through Downtown, ate calamari, I introduced him to my favorite Starbucks drink (Grande brown sugar shaken espresso, extra ice in a venti cup with brown sugar cold foam, stood over a bridge and gazed at the water and danced in a old gazebo to no music. It was in that moment I knew that I have found the one whom my soul has longed for.

Our third date, the week after. It rained all day. That didn’t stop us from enjoying Downtown all over again. I got into the car and He had for me waiting a red rose that he made with his 3-D printer. We then walked throughout Downtown ate at a French restaurant, had our first “Note book kiss” (If you know, you know haha) and told each other “I love you” for the first time. It was in that moment rain became sentimental to us.

And that date led to more dates after that, late night phone calls, praying together and deciding that we really love being together.
