Eternity’s priority

“We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal”
— - 2 Corinthians 4:18

Over the weekend I was going through the “Must get done” list as it was scrambling in my ADHD head. The schedules, the lists, school requirements and making sure the homeschool schedule is written out for the week.

When I heard that still voice, I know so well

If you didn’t pray for your spouse (future spouse in my case) than dishes do not matter.

If you haven’t prayed for your children today than scrubbing floors doesn’t matter.

If you haven’t scheduled devotional time today with Jesus than posting on social media doesn’t matter.

And Holy Spirit brought it to my attention the other day that If I don’t make eternity’s priority for my family my priority than I’m focusing my attention on secondary importances all day long and not what should be nonnegotiable for our family.

I don’t want to live a secondary importance legacy but a legacy that matters for eternity.

And to have a legacy that matters for eternity it must be a legacy that is first focused on eternity.

“When your eyes are fixed on the horizon of eternity, it effects your vision for motherhood”
— Gloria Furman

There is a reason why we are so tempted each day to put off reading the Bible for another day because life got busy, there is a reason why we get too exhausted that we forget to pray for our children during the day, there is a reason why we go weeks without praying with our partners before realizing we stopped praying together, there is a reason.

And it’s not because we’re busy. Its because the enemy knows.

He knows that once we get distracted by the things that are seen, he can pull us away from the things that are unseen.

the things that truly matter for eternity.

2 Corinthians tells us not to fix our eyes on what is seen but instead what is unseen.

Because what is seen is temporary. The dishes, the to-do lists, the things our urgent minds tell us “we have to do before anything else” It’s temperary.

The unseen. What happens in the ordinary moments of our hands folded in prayer to the Father interceding for our family, bringing out the Bible for a night time reading, going to Mass/Church on Sundays.

We don’t often see the outcome right away, But one day at a time, moment by moment, one daily eternal nonnegotiable at a time.

The unseen will become seen.

You’ll see it in their character, their love for the Lord, the godly connection between you and your spouse, and you’ll see it in the legacy your building.

The opposite is also true.

When we don’t prioritize Kingdom in our family

it will show in their character, their love for the Lord, the connection between you and your spouse and the legacy you’re building.

Father, help us to remember what truly matters.

When the dishes are piled up, the laundry is waiting, the house feels messy, and my to-do list feels endless, and when the nights are sleepless, remind me that the people who dwell within these walls are my greatest calling. Their souls come first before the physical evidence of them.

Teach me to look beyond what is right in front of me and see what it is in this moment that has the eternal value.

Help me to pray over my partner, instead of simply thinking of him, help me to speak life over my children instead of simply trying to keep them in line. Help me choose connection over perfection, prayer over pressure, and to choose what matters for eternity over what feels urgent to my anxieties.

Give me an eternal perspective. Let your eternal priority be my mission.

amen.

Until next time, One day at a time mama.
