Over coffee
If I were having coffee with you on this beautiful crisp fall day I’d invite you over to my new home, I’d ask you to excuse the unpacked, colored on all over boxes that I’m working on unpacking. I’d excitingly offer you a homemade pumpkin spice latte as I feel like I’ve mastered them to which I prefer them over starbucks….. WHICH IS HUUUUUGE.
I would ask How you’re doing? I’d ask if you could describe your season right now in one word what would it be? I’d say “Redemption” I believed I was walking in redemption shortly after my ex-husband left, however, I am seeing the fruit of this redemption every single day.
I’d tell you how we’re currently planning a wedding and we’re hoping to make the BIG DAY happen sooner rather than later. I’d tell you how my wedding dress came in this week and it made the upcoming day feel so real.
I’d tell you that I handed the keys to my apartment complex over to my landlord this month and we are officially moved into our home. It’s been a thirteen-year journey of dreaming of a house and getting to wake up, stand outside and get a beautiful view of your backyard. I can’t compare it to anything else; it’s such a good feeling.
If I were having coffee with you, I’d tell you how this has been the most beautiful fall season yet. I’d tell you that my four year old turned four last week and how just from the last four years her life is so different than how it started. She was born into a home that was recently shattered and didn’t know how the pieces would fall in place and now today for the first time, I look at her and all my children and I thank God that they are finally living the childhood I prayed for, and so very soon I will be able to watch them live their childhood full time as a redeemed housewife.
If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that we’re locking into school this month, now that the move is over. I never thought I’d get the opportunity to homeschool my girls again but feeling blessed to keep them home is a understatement. I’m continuing to public school my older two girls as they really enjoy going to school (Minus the waking up early part)
I’d tell you how I had my first week of OCIA (Order of Christian initiation of adults) last Monday. I’d tell you how I grew up not exactly rooted in a church or belief. I’ve always loved and had a relationship with Jesus but as far as secondary belief’s I’ve never had a foundational root. I feel like I’ve benefited from all of my backgrounds because though I don’t belief any belief gets it all right, I also belief all of us has something to learn from each other. I feel like often the American Evangelical church has lost its reverence for the house of God. We go there with coffee in hand, make a video (while worship is taking place) so we can post it on the gram. I feel like in some cases it’s become an entertainment over a righteous duty that we get to experience as children of God. I’ve been thinking a lot about foundation for my girls and what would be the most important thing I could give them. I’ve come to the conclusion that the most important thing I could give them other than the beautiful gift of Jesus and teaching them what He did for us, is Biblical roots and tradition, I want them to know the sacredness of the house of God and grow their roots there.
This is what I’d tell you if we were sitting on my back porch drinking coffee together surrounded by children, crumbs and a hundred baby dolls.
What would you tell me?
